Panera Allergen Guide 2026 — What to Know Before You Order

This Panera allergen menu guide explains which allergens appear in each part of the Panera menu, in general terms. It is NOT medical advice and never replaces Panera’s official allergen guide or a conversation with café staff — recipes change and cross-contact happens in shared kitchens.

The 9 major allergens at Panera

  • Wheat (breads, bagels, pasta)
  • Milk (cheese, creamy soups, bakery)
  • Egg (breakfast items, soufflés, many dressings)
  • Soy (dressings and sauces)
  • Peanuts (some bakery items)
  • Tree nuts (pecans in salads, walnuts in chicken salad, almonds)
  • Fish (Caesar dressing contains anchovy; tuna)
  • Shellfish (rare — check the current guide)
  • Sesame (bagels and some dressings)

Category by category

Breakfast — egg, milk and wheat in almost everything; the oatmeal is the simplest order. Soups — most contain milk; tomato-based soups are the usual dairy-free direction, but verify. Sandwiches & salads — asking for no cheese and no dressing removes most milk and egg. Bakery — wheat, milk and egg are standard, and nut cross-contact is common. Drinks — milk in lattes; plain teas and lemonades are the simplest. Use the Panera allergen menu to double-check each category before you order.

How to order with an allergy

Check the Panera allergen menu guide first, tell the café team it is an allergy (not a preference), ask them to change gloves and utensils, and re-check every visit — recipes change between guide editions.

Where the 9 major allergens hide at Panera

The allergens that matter most at Panera are the ones baked into the format. Wheat is everywhere — breads, bagels, pasta, pastries and most soups’ thickeners. Milk follows close behind in cheeses, creamy soups and desserts. Egg appears in bakery items, brioche and many dressings; soy in dressings and sauces; sesame on the Everything Bagel and many sandwich rolls. Tree nuts show up in the Steel Cut Oatmeal’s pecans and in bakery items, fish in the tuna sandwiches and traditionally in Caesar dressing, and peanuts and shellfish, while rare on the menu itself, are covered by Panera’s guide because of shared kitchens.

Ordering with an allergy: a short checklist

  • Check the item in Panera’s allergen information before you go — recipes change between editions.
  • Tell the café about the allergy when you order, not when the food arrives.
  • Ask for fresh gloves and a clean prep surface; cafés handle this request routinely.
  • When in doubt, choose the simplest item — the fewer components, the fewer unknowns.

Our gluten-free guide goes deeper on wheat specifically, and the nutrition page covers the numbers side of the menu.

Panera Allergen Menu FAQs

Does Panera publish an allergen guide?

Yes — updated with each menu edition.

Is anything at Panera guaranteed allergen-free?

No — shared kitchens mean cross-contact is always possible.

Which allergens are most common at Panera?

Wheat and milk appear in most of the menu.

Does the Everything Bagel contain sesame?

Yes — sesame seeds are part of its topping, which matters because sesame is one of the 9 major allergens.

Is anything at Panera peanut-free?

No item can be guaranteed peanut-free — shared kitchens mean cross-contact is always possible, even for items whose recipes contain no peanut.

Where does fish appear on the Panera menu?

Most obviously in the tuna sandwiches — and less obviously in Caesar dressing, which is traditionally made with anchovy.

Good to know about Panera allergen information

US food labelling law names nine major allergens: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame. Panera publishes allergen information for its menu items against those nine, and this page explains how to read it, where the official information lives, and which items commonly carry which allergens.

Two cautions matter more than any table. First, Panera kitchens handle all nine allergens, so cross-contact is always possible and no item can be promised allergen-free. Second, recipes change, so if you have a serious allergy, check Panera’s current allergen information and confirm with the cafe before ordering – every time, not just the first time.
